About

Our story

Paleohori is the vision and creation of Kyveli Kouvatsi and Yorgos Sioras Deligiannis, two dance artists and educators from Greece who envisioned a wooded piece of land as a meeting place for moving and sensing experiences. The concept of Paleohori arose from a deep need to reconnect with nature and to meet a community of similar interests and quests. The idea was conceived in October 2021 when there was nothing but trees on the land and by the summer of 2022 the first educational program for Paleohori became a reality! None of what followed would have been possible without the help of friends and family who supported us every step of the way.

Our project

Paleohori is an art-space organizing and hosting educational programs, workshops and artistic residencies. It is a project of Tripudium Collective, an artist-run, non-profit organization, founded in 2015 in Athens and based now in Lefkada, Greece. The organization focuses on dance education, research, and creation, engaging in an active dialogue with the sociopolitical landscape of everyday life. Our vision is to create a meeting point for people and practices that value nature, honor sensorial experiences, welcome diverse corporealities, and dare to reflect through others.

Our deepest desire is to grow slowly yet firmly, like a cypress tree, rooting deeply in a sustainable approach that respects and nourishes otherness. We aspire to be part of a ‘forest-like’, broader ecosystem, alongside like-minded individuals and their trajectories

The area

Neohori is a mountain settlement (300m) in Lefkada, approximately 5km from Nidri. Serenity, an impressive view, and the absence of shops are distinguishing features of the village. Instead, there is plenty of greenery, four springs, and a number of paths which are maintained by the village community every year.

The village was once abandoned by the locals as they gradually began to move towards coastal areas. Years later, around the late 70s and early 80s, it was rediscovered by people seeking a quiet place close to nature. It began to attract hippies, artists, and individuals from different parts of the world, eventually forming a diverse community.
Today, only a few of the families that initially settled there remain in the village, but new ones have arrived, creating a blend of people and cultures. In recent years, the cultural association has been active, and the old school of the village has been renovated for various activities, including exhibitions, presentations, film screenings, festivals, seminars, etc. Especially during the summer months, the village hosts many visitors from around the world.
Nidri is the most popular tourist resort in Lefkada, located in the eastern part of the island, 18 km south of the city of Lefkada and 20 km north of Vasiliki. It is a well-known cosmopolitan tourist destination on the island, offering numerous cafes, mini markets, ATMs, pharmacies, taverns, restaurants, and various accommodations. From the port of Nidri, visitors can choose from various daily boat trips to nearby islands such as Kastos, Kalamos, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Meganisi, as well as to beaches on the western part of the island like Porto Katsiki, Egremni, etc. Near Nidri, in Rachi, visitors can also explore the Waterfall, a wonderful location with cool running water where one can swim or simply enjoy the scenic path leading there.

Lefkada is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, situated on the West Coast of Greece. It is renowned worldwide for its stunningly beautiful beaches with transparent, turquoise waters, combined with the rich flora covering the mainland.
